Hello out there –
I am beyond excited to introduce my latest project, ‘Lush Ballads’, which is a collaboration between Kenny Werner and I (a project we’ve been talking about doing for about a decade), with a few of our favorite musical partners in crime joining us for the festivities. Kenny has truly outdone himself orchestrating these songs (his string writing is just incredible). The repertoire consists of a few familiar ballads alongside original tunes by Kenny and myself and in some cases, collaborations between the two of us. ‘Lush Ballads’ began as a live concert with the Berklee World Strings at the Berklee Performance Center last October and culminated in a recording at WGBH studios in Boston, MA this past Spring. Putting the ‘lush’ in “Lush Ballads” is a 17-piece orchestra led by cellist and conductor, wonderful Eugene Friesen, with a jazz trio featuring Kenny on piano, Matt Aronoff on bass, and Yoron Israel on drums. It was a particular thrill to get to sing in this setting. I was a lucky guy.
The official release date (on Rosebud Records) will be available on this page as well as all your favorite social media platforms, so keep an eye out for that . . . I suspect the project will be released early in 2018.
Also – the musical I have co-written with Cheri Coons, ‘The Kiss’, that was premiered at Berklee last April, will have a reading in early December at Northwestern University. Very excited that the piece is having another chance tobe seen and heard. I believe the dates are December 2nd and 3rd for those of you who might be in the Chicago area around that time, but please check back for confirmation.
