5. The Walrus Said -
(music - Peter Eldridge, l
yrics - Doug Worth & Peter Eldridge)
Peter Eldridge - vocals & piano

a jazz ballad I wrote in the mid-90’s with a lovely set of lyrics by dear friend (and poet) Doug ‘Doogie’ Worth. One of many of our successful collaborations, which include ‘Warm December’ and ‘First Morning’. I do like the nakedness/intimacy of this stripped down ‘live’ studio version. I could write one of these almost every day.

Lyrics

The Walrus Said

Roses see red
And violets get blue
Love’s a mess
What can you do?
Let’s do lunch - two smokescreens with fires
What makes the stars so wise?

Waffles are kings
And pigs do have wings
Close your eyes
See what I mean
Dark as day and restless as stone
Truth slips and slides away.

Oh, what’s the use
If you look at me like that I may drown
Let’s skip a year,
As if a hunch could last forever
Goodnight
Sweet snake sleep tight
What was it that life meant to say?

Dream away.
